May Day is traditionally associated with colorful ribbons, May poles, and beautiful flowers. We Quilters could adapt it a bit with colorful quilts and beautifully appliquéd flowers hanging on an old fashioned clothes line.
I am very excited about our upcoming trip to International Quilt Market in Salt Lake City. This event showcases products like Bags, Packaging, Batting, Stuffing & Basics, Books & Publications , Buttons, Crafts, Doll Making, Dyes, Embroidery, Fabrics, Frames & Equipment, Jewelry, Kits, Needlework, Notions & Tools, Patterns, Quilting Machines, Ribbons, Sewing Furniture, Sewing Machines, Stencils & Painting, Threads, Trims & Laces, Wool, Yarn, etc., etc. There is so much to do: mini-classes to decide on; registration; researching designers; and a game plan to organize. I will be representing you, so why not come in and tell me what interests you. John (and his video camera) will be traveling with me. We hope to share with you the mysteries of market, so watch our Facebook page.
I had a lovely time demonstrating curved piecing to create the drunkards path block at Sapphire Quilt Club this month. There will be a workshop on May 9th for hands-on sewing. If you are interested, come and join the fun. For more information, please contact us.
On May 3rd, the hand embroidery group meets from 10:00 - 12:00. Make plans to stop in and enjoy some hand work with them.
May 13th will be our last Pajama Party until September. We always have a great time chatting, sewing, more chatting, and of course eating.
Spring cleaning is upon us! Please don't forget your sewing machines. Cameron from ‘A Clean Stitch’ recommends that we clean and oil our machines about every eight hours of sewing. Google told me about every five bobbins. Whatever method you choose to measure by, be sure to do it! That "felt pad" in your feed dogs is NOT supposed to be there. Make sure you always use sewing machine oil only and that it is not yellowed. Patchwork Quilts carries oil in easy application bottles. If you are planning a trip this summer, why not bring your machine in for its "spa" day? It will be cleaned, tuned up, and oiled by the time you return.
The warm weather is almost here and May is always a busy month. Enjoy the celebrations, but don't forget your sewing passion.
